Chiefeater Russ King Karl shares the famous old school Bak Moey place on Lorong Perak

Beef Noodles, Street Food, Non-Halal
An early morning stroll along Jalan Gaya led us to an unexpected sight—a steady stream of foreign tourists making a beeline for Kedai Kopi Yee Fung. Some had even come straight from the airport, luggage in tow. With such a buzz around the place, we decided to join in and see what the fuss was about.

Jen ordered the Yee Fung Laksa (RM12). The Yee Fung laksa had a light creamy broth with a mild spice flavour. Jen found it decent but not exactly to the type of laksa or curry mee she is accustomed to. I would say the prawns were undoubtedly fresh, a crucial element that lifted the dish for me.

As for the Ngau Chap or Beef Noodles (RM11), it was alright but not quite the robust, beefy broth I had hoped for. The flavour leaned lighter than expected, which might be the local preference. Interestingly, the beef lacked gaminess which was the experience I had at Burger King in KK and Mamasita too). Some might appreciate this, but for me, it meant missing that signature depth of flavour. The meat was diced into tiny, delicate pieces, making for a more refined, dainty experience. That’s good if you prefer a neater bowl, but I personally enjoy my street food with a bit more rustic charm.

With a constant influx of tourists, Yee Fung has clearly built a reputation as a must-visit spot. See the difference in terms of patronage compared to their neighbour.
