Lunch at Flour and Oil Cafe

Apom, Pork-Free
Operating since 1922, Ravi’s Claypot Apom is one of those rare food stalls that carry with them not just recipes, but memories and heritage. Now likely run by the fourth generation, it’s remarkable that something as humble as apom has stood the test of time—and even more remarkable that it still tastes as good as it did in childhood recollections.

For RM6, you get five pieces of this beloved snack. The apom here is a textbook study in balance. Not overly sweet, with delicately crispy edges and a fluffy, soft centre that delivers a light, coconut-infused comfort with each bite.
It’s the kind of old-school treat that doesn’t need updating or reinvention—just proper care and a steady hand on the claypot.

That said, you’ll need patience. Even with our other food—hokkien mee—arriving first, the appom took its time. But really, when you’re enjoying the result of over a century of tradition, what’s a little wait?

If you’re in the Pulau Tikus and come across Ravi’s Claypot Apom, make the time for it. Some things are worth the wait—and this is one of them. For bragging rights, you can tell people you ate at a Michelin Bib Gourmand listed eatery.

It’s advisable to arrive early, as the Ravi’s Claypot Apom often sells out by 9:30 am. I was there at 9:00 am
