The Ming Room Hokkien Mee
Chiefeater Luke Soon was not disappointed at all with the Hokkien Mee he had at The Ming Room in Bangsar

Pastries
Yixing Xuan Teahouse is known for their Chinese teas. This shop is part of a rich Chinatown heritage culture – workshops to appreciate tea from Yunnan and all over China. Be prepared to pay up to SGD200 for a pot of tea here, which you can refill 5 to 10 times.

Serves about 3 mugs at optimal taste – after which the leaves’ yield tapers off. Come for a good cuppa- Chinese tea drinking isn’t as religious an affair like the Japanese tea ceremony (Zen Buddhism inspired), it’s a social affair (read: louder).
Oh and of course – the teas. We selected Da Hong Pao (Prestige), and it was fantastic. I may not be a tea connoisseur (yet), but my palate can still discern the richness and silkiness of top quality Chinese tea

The red bean filling in the green tea pastry was excellent- chewy and packing full depth of richness in favours. The crispy bean curd was not too bad either. The former weighs in 7/10, the beancurd skin at 6.5/10

This was a pleasant surprise for me, as the main highlight was Chinese tea. Oh yes, tea at one point – the tea rings/bundles were worth more than silver- and it’s steadily climbing again with Chinese affluence. There are quite a few small plates to choose from including some dim sum items. That was the clincher for me!
