Yong Tau Foo
Strolling through the Ara Permata commercial rows following a morning pitstop, the unassuming storefront of Ee Hiong Hakka Yong Tau Foo caught my eye. It is an unpretentious, traditional setup that contrasts sharply with the contemporary cafés nearby, yet the steady hum of lunch-hour diners inside suggested a kitchen operating with consistent local appeal.

They have other Hakka goodies too

We decided to sample their YTF. When the dishes arrived, the primary victory was immediately clear—scale. At RM2.50 a piece, the portions are remarkably generous and densely packed with filling. Texturally, the fish and meat paste leaned slightly on the pasty, finer-grained side rather than carrying that firm, springy bounce found in artisan variants. Nevertheless, the intrinsic flavors were well-seasoned, savory, and entirely satisfying.

The experience unfortunately hit a snag when it came to the essential accompaniments. A good yong tau foo relies heavily on its dipping partners, but both the red chili sauce and the sweet sauce served here were a definitive letdown.

Still, looking past the muted condiments, the generous size of the YTF makes this an option for as a lunch destination if you are in the neighborhood.
Brinjal (2 pcs): RM5.00
Bitter Gourd (2 pcs): RM5.00

M – Meal Value
At RM2.50 per piece for notably large, substantial portions, the economy of scale here is excellent. For a net total of under RM30 for 2 pax including drinks, it stands as a high-utility, budget-friendly lunch option for the area.
Score: 8.5/10
V – Venue & Vibes
The dining room is clean, brightly lit, and functionally laid out with traditional round tables.
Score: 7.0/10
X – X-Factor
The X-factor is the chunky portion size of the yong tau foo fillings.
Score: 6.8/10
