Kuey Teow Kia, Street Food, Non-Halal
We stopped off at Chan Sow Lin MRT station to explore the food possibilities around there. That’s how we came upon Ren Ren Kuey Teow Kia. I remembered my first experience with Kuey Teow Kia was many years ago in Johor Bahru where my course mate first introduced me to it. They had me at the innards. I loved it!
Kuey Teow Kia is served with the thin variant of kuey teow in a herbal broth. And you can add pork or chicken slices and innards as per your liking. Ren Ren Kuey Teow Kia being more “atas” (this is the term for up-market) separates the accompanying meat or innards in separate dishes.

We ordered a Quarter Braised Chicken (RM15.90), a small plate of Pig Stomach (RM6.50), a plate of Yao Mak (RM9.00) and a Sour and Spicy Veg (RM9.00). Jen had a plate of Yam Rice (RM3.80) while I had a bowl of Kuey Teow (RM3.80).
The broth that the Kuey Teow came in was certainly herbal. It left a sweet aftertaste after drinking it, which then embellished the taste of everything I ate from that point. I was surprised to find that I enjoyed that taste. I think I would have not enjoyed this when I was younger. Interestingly, most of the diners there that afternoon were somewhat more senior. If you are below the age of 30 and find that off-putting, don’t come here.

Most of the dishes were flavourful though I would skip the braised chicken the next time. I found it a tad chewy. The Yam rice had only 1 piece of Yam in it. The Kuey Teow they used might have been a bit too thick and not silky smooth enough. Nevertheless, it was an enjoyable meal.
All in lunch came up to RM51.90 with drinks. Prices are nett.
