Joy Bakery is a stalwart of the food and beverage scene in PJ. They have been around at Taman Megah since 1997. The owners who set the bakery up were also the founders of the once famous Angel Cake House which was the place where every PeeJayan would buy their celebratory cake at. With that pedigree, it is no wonder that Joy Bakery bakes a variety of cakes and pastries and cookies.
It was a chicken chop quest that led me to Joy Bakery and that is what I had. Not only I but Chiefeater Chris as well. Their Hainanese Chicken Chop (RM15+) was topped with a savoury brown mushroom gravy instead of a ketchup based gravy. While the traditional recipe uses a brown onion gravy, I am always open to different types of sauces.

The generously portioned chicken chop was accompanied with a fried egg (you hardly see this nowadays), fries, baked beans and a slice of tomato and slices of cucumber. The chicken was covered in a crispy batter and was well seasoned. But there was a consistency issue. I found chicken meat on the chewy side of things. Chris, on the other hand, said his chicken meat was tender. However, our sides were consistently cold when it was served to us.
We had their Hainan Kopi (RM3.50+) which Chiefeater John (who did not eat this time because he already had his first and second lunch before meeting us) gave his approval. Aromatic without being overly robust.
