Wu Kok / Yam dumplings are usually available at Dim Sum Places. “Char Siew with Green beans wrapped in Yam Paste and deep-fried”.
In Seberang Perai, the Mainland part of Penang State, where outstation visitors do not usually visit, there a “traveling” Wu Kok stall. He usually set up his stalls at Various Pasar Pagi, Pasar Malam.. I have seen him @ Sungai Bakap, @ V’dor (Valdor ) and here at Butterworth Apollo Market – Morning on Sunday (usually) and occasionally at special Markets open by Temple
Within minutes after he opens, his customer will be surround the stall, and it’s only the patient person who will get a chance as it may take up to 3 rounds before you can get a chance to purchase this delicious yam dumplings.
Once in a while, on a slow business day. I would chances upon his stall, with a lone Wu Kok or 2 left, (without any customer around interested to purchase, they usually buy half a dozen or more) in between fryings. I will immediately snap it up…..
Warning – Eat at your own risk, other yam dumplings will pale in comparison.
