Cendol, Desserts
A friend had tried the cendol at Rasadulu Cafe and said that she thinks Aunty Peggy’s Classic cendol was better. Since I had a cendol craving, I decided to give it a try since I happened to be in PJ Old Town.
What’s distinct about the cendol (RM4) here is how it’s presented. The ice is shaved very fine and packed tall in the bowl. On the surface, you don’t see much Gula Melaka on it. You would be forgiven to think that they had forgotten to add Gula Melaka to your bowl. Dig your spoon into the ice and you will find that you were wrong. The Gula Melaka is actually inside the shaved ice. That’s what makes it special. Each bite of ice is filled with Gula goodness. While the cendol itself was not a standout for me, unlike the one at Rasadulu, the combined elements came together well.

One cranky old man seated beside us was complaining to Aunty Peggy that “HER PROBLEM” was that the bowl that she served her cendol in was too small. She expertly handled him by offering him a bigger disposable bowl to put the cendol in. That seemed to appease him. That was a life lesson for me.
The other hallmark about Aunty Peggy’s Classic is how composed and courteous they remain despite the torrent of customers they have.
Prices are nett and they accept TnG.
