Risotto, Pork-Free
I had planned to catch up with a friend at another cafe but as fate would have it, on the day of our meet it was not opened. So it was to Awesome Canteen at Taman Paramount instead. They have been around for many years and was the first hipster cafe to open in the area. Today the stretch of shops where they are at is home to many other F&B establishments. The proximity to the Taman Paramount LRT station doesn’t hurt either.
I had the Mushroom Truffle Risotto with Smoked Duck & Egg (RM36++) which comes under the Awesome Specials section. Let me say the truffle aroma hits you before you even put it into your mouth. Let that linger in your olfactories for awhile. It’s worth savouring it.
The risotto was perhaps less al-dente than I would have liked. The texture was more like that of a hard porridge which I guess most local diners would prefer. The egg was nicely hidden beneath the smoked duck, was perfectly poached. The smoked duck was not over cooked so it remained tender. I enjoyed this dish.
Despite the new restaurants here, parking remains fairly easy to find. But of course, if you take the LRT is even better. The LRT station being just less than 500 metres away.
