Thai
Dinner at Double Joy Restaurant was a delightful journey through vibrant Thai flavors. We ordered several dishes to be shared among the 5 of us.
Steamed Fish was nicely done. It provided a bright, acidic counterpoint to the other dishes.

Salted egg sotong featured fresh sotong. This offered a nice bite. Would go well with beer.

The Green Curry was rich, aromatic, and perfectly balanced. This was the dish that made us want to have more rice. I was impressed with my resolve not to eat more than half a plate of rice.

The Stir Fried Sweet Potato Leaves were tasty and fresh.

However, the item that really stole the show was the Thai Fried Kang Kong. I had never eaten kangkung prepared this way before. Fried in a light egg batter and paired with a spicy minced meat sauce, it was a total revelation for me. To me, it is a must-order for anyone visiting Double Joy Restaurant.

Steamed Fish with Lemon Chili: RM65.00
Salted Egg Sotong: RM32.00
Green Curry: RM38.00
Thai Fried Kang Kong: RM25.00
Sweet Potato Leaf (Garlic Stir-Fry): RM16.00
Total Bill: RM199.80
Average Spend per pax: RM39.96 per pax (based on 5 pax including food, rice and drinks)
Score: 8.1/10
M – Meal Value
For a total bill of just under RM200 for a multi-course spread including a whole steamed fish and premium vegetable dishes, the value here is excellent. The portion sizes and unique preparations justify the mid-range pricing for a specialized Thai meal.
Score: 8.0/10
V – Venue & Vibes
Located in the quiet neighborhood of SS3 Taman Universiti, the restaurant offers a comfortable, air-conditioned environment suitable for family dinners or casual group gatherings. The service is efficient, contributing to a pleasant dining atmosphere.
Score: 7.8/10
X – X-Factor
The X-factor for me was the Thai Fried Kang Kong. Transforming a common local vegetable into a crispy, batter-fried delight paired with a punchy minced meat sauce is a creative triumph that provides a memorable “revelation” for the palate.
Score: 8.5/10
