Mountains or the sea, what shall it be? A coin flip determines my weekend riding destination and this time, I head west to the Selangor coast. There's not much in terms of early breakfast spots right by the beach. I punch in Bagan Lalang into my map app, rumble away on two wheels for an hour and then I find Restoran Mak Ngah at an intersection, facing the beach.
There's a simple breakfast selection of mee goreng, nasi lemak and some Malay kuih. I get a mixed plate of spicy noodles and vermicelli, add two eggs sunny side up for that morning protein intake, and a cup of sock coffee with condensed milk. For lunch, they serve a large variety of traditional Malay dishes to go with rice.
The food at Restoran Mak Ngah is tasty and affordable but I'm here mostly for the location: the Sepang Gold Coast resort stretches out beyond the beach into the water, large cargo ships lumber along the Straits of Malacca, and I get to enjoy the salty sea breeze along with my cup of coffee.
Heading north after the resort, there are other smaller stalls that serve breakfast further up the beach road. Those have a nicer view and you can set up a picnic spot on flat sand under the shade from casuarina trees.
