Yong Tau Foo, Chee Cheong Fun, Pork-Free
I was in Bangsar South and finally had a chance to meet up with one of the partners who started Fishermen Yong Tau Foo, Azwar. His story of how he got into the F&B industry is one of guts, discovery & friendly collaboration. Guts because no one in his immediate circle had been in F&B before, let alone F&B. Discovery because this journey is really a stat from ground zero and he & his wife had to figure out every single step of building this up themselves. Friendly collaboration because he reached out to someone else who makes Yong Tau Foo and seeked their advice and they willingly offered it. This is a common story I hear in the F&B industry, of entrepreneurs helping one another. It is heart warming.

The Yong Tau Foo is sourced from halal suppliers to cater to diners of all religious persuasions. I must first say that I very rarely have Chee Choong Fun and Yong Tau Foo that is not halal. Very rare meaning I can’t even remember the last time I did so in the last 2 years.
The chee cheong fun was a silky smooth variety. The curry broth it was doused in was well seasoned. This would be a watery curry broth but still tasty. The fish paste that was used in the Yong Tau Foo was springy. One of the items that caught my eye was a luncheon meat option; chicken luncheon meat. That was delightful. It had a firm bite and good savoury flavours.

A meal there comes with free flow Chinese tea. You could also order it with coffee which is supplied by Daily Potion a few doors away. An example of collaboration in action. Fishermen Yong Tau Foo has been an eye opener to what I can expect from a non traditional Yong Tau Foo and Chee Cheong Fun.
