Chiefeater Khor Hui Min was back in Ipoh in time for a simple but delicious dinner at the venerable Ipoh Tuck Kee Restaurant
Hong Kong, Soya Sauce Noodles, Non-Halal
Back at Kai Duck Ngee Ann City. One of the most popular HK char chan teng dish is soya sauce noodles. Something so simple - a few ingredients - is a testament to the chefs skill. Simplicity is elegance. I’ve not found a place outside of HK with as an authentic rendition as the one at Kai Duck Ngee Ann City.
Everything youd expect - dry, fragrant and bouncy with every bite. Perfection.
Unlike dishes like the char siew - which even Hongkongers argue we’ve (ASEAN) adapted/ perfected beyond their own - char chan teng staples like soya sauce noodles and pineapple buns remain in a class of their own.
7.5/10 for the noodles at Kai Duck Ngee Ann City.
Oh and best pineapple bun outside HK is to be had here as well. In fact that was the original draw how we got to know Kai Duck 5 years ago
