Steamed Pork
Dinner at Lhong Tou Dim Sum led me to their Steamed Pork Salted Fish Yam Rice, mainly because their noodle dishes weren’t available in single-diner portions. It arrived in a lovely claypot setup complete with a steaming lid and a separate saucer of house chilli. Visually, the dish was appealing.

Generous minced pork and salted pork, fresh greens overlaid the yam rice.

The pork was tender and well-seasoned, and the yam rice was good. But the salted fish was extremely assertive and ended up dominating the entire bowl. Every spoonful led with salted fish first, with everything else pushed into the background.

For balance, the bright, punchy chilli helped tremendously. I enjoyed it so much that I asked for extras.
The flavours leaned heavy and intense. While the claypot kept everything steaming hot, the ratio of salted fish tipped too far, overtaking the subtleties of the pork and yam. The greens offered some relief, and the shredded ginger lifted the aroma, but the overall profile stayed salty and strong. If you enjoy bold salted fish dishes, this would suit you. For me, it needed more harmony to let the other ingredients shine.
The chilli was the highlight – vibrant, aromatic, slightly tangy, and exactly what the dish needed to cut through the richness.

Steamed Pork Salted Fish Yam Rice – RM20.90
Tie Guan Yin (Small Pot) – RM10.90
Score: 7.7 / 10
M – Meal Value (7.2/10)
Fresh ingredients, generous portion, and well-presented, but the salted fish overwhelmed the pork and yam, reducing flavour clarity.
V – Vibe & Venue (8.0/10)
Warm lighting, cosy seating, and a modern-Chinese aesthetic. Service was quick and friendly though I think it was warmer in the morning.
X – X-Factor (7.8/10)
The claypot presentation with the lifted lid and separate chilli cup gave it a ceremonial feel. The chilli was the standout element.
