Braised Pork
I had heard about Long Jiang Pork Rice Puchong through a neighbour and I ordered a spread that included both their signature pig’s trotter and their black vinegar pork trotters to see how they compared.
The Pig’s Trotter with Large Intestine Rice (RM29.00) came loaded with braised pig’s trotter, large intestine, braised tofu, beancurd skin and a soy egg, accompanied by steamed rice and chilli. Flavour-wise, it delivered everything you would expect from a well-braised pork dish. The gravy carried a pleasant herbal richness, while the intestine was clean, tender and absorbed the braising liquid nicely.

The only disappointment was the texture of the pig’s trotter itself. It had been braised to the point where the meat became almost too soft. Instead of retaining a little bite, it simply fell apart and disintegrated as I ate it. Some people may enjoy that melt-in-the-mouth texture, but I personally prefer my pork trotter to hold together a little better.

Fortunately, the Black Vinegar Pork Trotters (RM42.22 for half portion) turned out to be the stronger dish. The meat retained more structure while still remaining tender, and the black vinegar gave the gravy a gentle tang that balanced the richness of the pork nicely. Between the two, this would be my recommendation on a return visit.

We also added the Iceberg Lettuce (RM13.10), which provided a welcome contrast to the richness of the meal. Lightly cooked and topped with fragrant fried garlic, it helped freshen the palate between bites of the braised pork.
Despite being delivered, everything arrived warm and neatly packed. The separate containers prevented the rice from becoming soggy, and the sauces stayed where they belonged.
