Japanese
Tucked away in Taman Desa, Himawari Japanese Cuisine delivers an authentic, comforting experience that feels like a true neighborhood find. The restaurant offers a warm, traditional, and welcoming setup that focuses heavily on classic Japanese home-style recipes, providing a lovely escape for a peaceful afternoon meal.

The culinary execution over lunch was outstanding, marked by clean, well-balanced flavors. The highlight of the meal belonged to their bitter gourd dish, cooked style of an Okinawan Goya Champuru. It was a lovely savory delight, featuring finely sliced, tender bits of bitter gourd tossed with egg and savory pork pieces. The balance of seasoning was so precise that if I were to return on my own just seeking a light meal, ordering this standalone dish would be the perfect strategy.

We also sampled their premium combo set featuring Hokkaido pork belly paired with grilled Saba. The pork belly was beautifully rendered, succulent, and carried a deep umami glaze.

The saba fish was grilled perfectly with a crisp skin and moist, flavorful meat. Every element across the plates felt intentional and well-crafted.

For those seeking honest, comforting Japanese fare that steers clear of predictable franchise menus, this establishment is an excellent destination.

M – Meal Value
At under RM45 per head for a meal anchored by premium items like imported Hokkaido pork belly and a technically excellent bitter gourd hot dish, the value is great.

V – Venue & Vibes
The dining room captures a cozy, retro, and comfortable old-school Japanese diner vibe. It is well-cooled, peaceful, and feels entirely unpretentious, creating a relaxed atmosphere that is perfect for a casual lunch escape.
Score: 7.5/10
X – X-Factor
The X-factor is the savory finesse of the bitter gourd stir-fry. Managing to extract the ideal level of gentle bitterness while letting the rich egg and savory pork coat the strands perfectly elevates a simple home-style side into a memorable signature bite.
Score: 8.0/10
