Claypot
Dinner at Masu Claypot in Cheras turned out to be a fiery experience in every sense. The sliced pork stood out as the best dish of the evening, tender with just the right level of spice. Every dish here carried the familiar numbing mala flavour, and while it was enjoyable at first, I paid the price a day later.

What made the experience more interesting was their RM2 per pax deal — unlimited refills of rice, drinks, and ice cream. It brought back memories of student days, watching one diner go back for thirds on rice. The décor deserves mention too, with old newspapers from China plastered on the walls, giving it a rustic feel.

The sliced pork was the most enjoyable among the dishes, striking a balance between heat and savouriness. The mala base was potent, with that tongue-tingling quality that’s both addictive and slightly punishing. Textures were satisfying overall, though the spice may be overwhelming for those unaccustomed to it. The rice was well-cooked and the endless refills made it perfect for anyone looking to eat their fill.

Eggplant

The glass noodle was OK but I should have skipped this since we had unlimited rice.

MVX Score: x.x / 10 (example — weighted from Meal Value + Vibe + X-Factor)
Masu Claypot scores high on Value (8.5) and Experience (8.0) for its unlimited refills and casual, nostalgic vibe. Flavour (7.0) takes a dip due to the overpowering mala spice that masks the ingredients’ natural taste. It’s a good pick for those who love strong flavours and hearty portions, though not ideal for light eaters.
