Trying out Dim Loong Dim Sum

Dim Sum
Stopped by New WK Dining Suria Sabah Shopping Mall for a dim sum breakfast and ordered three staples — Siew Mai, Har Gao, and Char Siew Cheong Fun. Chinese tea completed the spread. This 3 items are my benchmark for me to see if I want to order anything else.

The Char Siew Cheong Fun came in the thicker-skinned variant. It was smooth but a bit too dense for my liking. I prefer the thin, silky style that wraps more delicately around the filling.

The Har Gao unfortunately didn’t hold up well either. The skin was too dry and tore easily when lifted, although the shrimp filling was fresh enough.

The Siew Mai had decent flavour, but the texture of the meat felt too processed. It lacked that distinct hand-chopped bite that defines a good siew mai.

Overall, it wasn’t an unpleasant meal. Maybe I was expecting more finesse given the many Hong Kong tourist that visit Kota Kinabalu.
Siew Mai - RM7.80
Har Gao - RM10.30
Char Siew Cheong Fun - RM7.30
Tea for 2 pax - RM6.80
Score: 6.8/10
M – Meal Value (6.5): Standard pricing for a mall dim sum place, but execution fell short.
V – Vibe & Venue (7.5): Bright, comfortable, air-conditioned setting ideal for casual brunches.
X – X-Factor (6.5): Convenient location inside Suria Sabah, but dim sum quality was average.
