For this year’s reunion meal, we opted to order food delivery from PichaEats, and it turned out to be an excellent decision. The food was not only delicious but also generously portioned, making it a truly satisfying experience. We ordered a mix of Palestinian, Syrian and Afghanistan cuisine.

The standout dish was the maqloobah, a traditional Middle Eastern dish whose name translates to “upside-down.” This one-pot meal consists of fragrant rice, spiced meat (often chicken or lamb), and layers of vegetables, all cooked together before being flipped over onto a serving plate, revealing its beautifully arranged layers. PichaEats’ version was fantastic—flavourful, aromatic, and perfectly balanced in seasoning.

Look at the amount of chicken inside the maqloobah.

While PichaEats may have started as a social enterprise supporting refugee chefs, it’s the sheer quality of their food that makes them a place worth returning to. Their dedication to authenticity and flavour ensures a meal that’s both meaningful and delicious.
