Rice Bowl, Coffee, Pork-Free
I had only become aware of the food options found on Jalan 17/1A recently. It so happened that I had a meeting arranged at Rika Cafe so I took the opportunity to try their food as well. I discovered they are an outpost of the renowned VCR brand. Despite its modest size, this cozy cafe has quickly made a name for itself with its delectable food offerings and expertly crafted coffee.

Stepping into Rika Cafe, I was immediately drawn to its intimate ambiance and minimalist decor. The space exuded a sense of warmth and tranquility, making it the perfect spot to escape the hustle and bustle of the city and indulge in a leisurely meal or coffee break.
I ordered their Chicken Katsu Rice Bowl (RM23) for lunch. The dish was well presented and certainly looks like it was made for the gram. Taking my first bite, I was struck by the satisfying crunch of the chicken's exterior, giving way to tender and flavourful meat beneath.

The rice, infused with hints of vinegar, provided the perfect accompaniment, adding a subtle tanginess that complemented the savoury chicken beautifully. While the chicken may have been slightly firmer than I typically prefer, its robust flavour and crispy texture more than made up for it. The generous toppings and sides of cabbage and hot mustard completed the dish which made it an enjoyable meal.

Of course, no visit to Rika Cafe would be complete without sampling their renowned coffee. With VCR's pedigree behind it, I had high expectations for my cup of joe. I wasn't disappointed. From the first sip to the last, the coffee delivered a rich and complex flavour profile.

Rika Cafe is a charming addition to the list of eateries found in this part of Section 17.
