Teochew, Chinese, Non-Halal
Authentic Teochew lunch at Teochew Fatty Aunty Bak Kut Teh.

When I was at Pandamaran, I wanted to eat Teochew dishes. I recommend this home-style restaurant, Teochew Fatty Aunty Bak Kut Teh. It is run by Bee Yong Lim, a second-generation who has taken over her mother’s small home restaurant. Nearby residents come here early in the morning to eat seafood porridge, bak kut teh, and Teochew braised dishes.
The seafood here is delivered daily from the port, and diners can also ask the owner for any special or seasonal fish of the day. She will cook up her homemade dishes for you. One of my must-try dishes is the Teochew stir-fried fish head. It is stir-fried with preserved radish, chili, okra, and hometown sauce, which is super appetizing. Teochew braised dishes are also my favorite, with pig trotters, pig intestines, pig stomach, eggs, and tofu skin. Teochew families cannot do without fried meatballs, which are crispy and flavorful. It’s very old-fashioned!
