Coffee
A quiet mid-afternoon stop at The Alley Penang on Stewart Lane turned into a much needed coffee break.

I went for a flat white, pulled using their Underdog Blend, and it arrived with a lovely surprise - a complimentary coffee bloom tea.

The bloom tea is essentially the first rinse of coffee grounds captured during pre-infusion. It’s light, floral, and slightly fruity, acting almost like a palate-awakening mini cold brew shot before the main drink. A small touch, but one that shows intention and hospitality.
The flat white itself had a smooth body with notes of molasses and berry from the blend, a combination of their Honduran and Ethiopian heritage.

Sitting at their brushed metal table, the combination of the bloom tea and the flat white flowed naturally. The former served as a refreshing clearance of the tastebuds after my lunch. The latter delivering the warm, creamy kick you expect from a well-made flat white.
The espresso had a tidy balance: enough acidity to stay lively, rounded sweetness from the milk, and a finish that lingered pleasantly and I especially like the berry flavour of the coffee.
Flat White (5oz) – RM12.00

Great coffee at an honest price, with a complimentary bloom tea that elevates the experience.
V – Vibe & Venue (8.3/10)
A compact, well-kept coffee bar with indie Penang heritage charm. The old shophouse façade adds character.
X – X-Factor (8.8/10)
The bloom tea. It’s rare, thoughtful, and memorable — a small gesture that says “we care about the cup.”
