Thai
I was just telling Chiefeater VK how hard it is to score a table at Un-Yang-Kor-Dai Singapore (UYKD) - to me the islands best Thai offering bar none. We ordered the essentials this time - we were lucky to be able to just walk in, on a waiting list.
We thought nothing of it, put our names down on the waiting list and proceeded to Sake Maru next door (another nice place!) for Japanese food.
A few moments later, we got a call from UYKD saying a table miraculously freed up. And bcos we were strategically just next door - the choice was obvious. We finished up our starters at Sake Maru and trotted over for some serious Thai.
It was packed as usual. We decided to go for the usuals, the simplest dishes. Authentic Thai dishes.
And these were the Tom Yum mama noodles with minced pork. The pork mince omelette and a fried fish.
The noodles was a dangerous 7.5/10.
The omelette was good at 7/10 but Nummun @ Upper Thomson takes the crown.
The fish was ok, at 6.5/10. The pomelo marinade and thick sauce (a style synonymous to UYKD’s) was not for me. The fish was good. I would have preferred a drier and soya sauce based version. That’s just me. But no fault to UYKD for serving up authentic Thai variants.
There’s no doubt UYKD is a Top3 Thai restaurant in Singapore. Oh, and book early.
