Chiefeater Steven C T Tea was back at Jenjarom and found an agreeable taste of braised pork knuckles Ming Gu Wo Hong Bak
Spanish, Non-Halal
Barra Restaurant, nestled in the vibrant heart of Petaling Street, was a delightful find during a stroll looking for a place to have lunch before a meeting. Drawn in by the promise of Spanish cuisine, I decided to sample a dish or two.
The menu offered intriguing options, and my light meal started with the Tortilla de Chistorra (RM38). This traditional Spanish omelette, enriched with the smoky, slightly spicy paprika sausage, was comforting and flavourful. The sausage added a savoury depth to the soft, creamy eggs, while the accompanying bread provided the perfect vessel for scooping up every bite.
Since the environment was so cozy here, I decided to ask my friend to do our catch up here. we decided to try the Gambas Al Ajillo (RM38). This classic dish of prawns sautéed in garlic and olive oil was aromatic and satisfying. However, it lacked the chili heat that many contemporary renditions incorporate. Upon inquiry, I discovered that the absence of chili adheres to the traditional Catalonian preparation, which focuses on the simplicity of garlic-infused olive oil. While I appreciated its authenticity, my palate might be slightly spoiled by the spicier versions I’ve had in other restaurants in KL.
I couldn’t help but notice a more indulgent item on the menu—the suckling pig (RM188), which certainly warrants a return visit. For larger gatherings, Barra also features a private room accommodating up to 14 people, with a minimum spend of RM2,500.
Jamon
The elegant atmosphere of Barra Restaurant and authentic offerings make it a gem worth exploring, especially for anyone yearning for a taste of Spain amidst the bustling energy of Petaling Street.
