Chiefeater Yong Choy Peng shares a breakfast visit to Ah Wong Office, highlighting an Asam Laksa Fried Bee Hoon

A visit to Restoran Chang Ke Fang was a walk back down nostalgia for me. I remember this being a place where I was introduced to roti canai when I was schooling at the nearby primary school in the 1970s. This place has been around since 1961, and they have kept the decor pretty much the same, preserving the authentic kopitiam atmosphere.

For breakfast, I opted for a variation of their classic set. While their “Yummy Combo” typically includes half-boiled eggs, they kindly accommodated my request for fried eggs instead. The toast was competent, and the kopi was kaw (strong), delivering that signature robust flavor expected from a heritage coffee shop.

Average Spend: Under RM10 per pax

Score: 7.0/10
M – Meal Value
The “Yummy Combo” at under RM10 represents excellent value for a hearty, traditional breakfast.

V – Venue & Vibes
Stepping into this restaurant is like traveling back to the 1960s. The original decor and historical significance, especially for those who grew up in the area, provide an irreplaceable sense of nostalgia that modern cafes cannot replicate.
Score: 7.0/10
X – X-Factor
The X-factor is the living history of the establishment. Operating continuously for over six decades and now into it’s 3rd generation of operators, its charm makes it a cornerstone of the neighborhood’s identity and a primary destination for those seeking an authentic old-school experience.
