Tang Jai Yoo Restaurant Teochew Dinner
Teochew
Chiefeater Patrick Sato Lee had a simple Teochew style dinner at Tang Jai Yoo Restaurant in Bangkok's Chinatown

Tai Chow
Dinner at Restoran Paramount Seng Fatt was a comforting trip to taste familiar, simple tai chow flavors. They specialize in classic dishes that feel very much rooted in the area’s history. It remains one of the few remaining “old-school” establishments in the area that has resisted the wave of modern cafe gentrification, maintaining its identity as a straightforward, no-frills dining.

The Potato Leaves were nicely prepared; they tasted fresh and earthy.

I found the Fah Lam Poh (Fried Mushroom/Delicacy) alright, though I felt the pieces of meat were sliced too thin and were quite small to really have a satisfying bite from.

The Salted Egg Fried Rice had a wonderful flavor and was cooked just right—it managed to be flavorful without being overly oily, which is always a plus!

Salted Egg Fried Rice (big): RM30.00
Fah Lam Poh: RM33.00
Potato Leaves: RM16.00
Total: RM85.80 for 3 pax (including Drinks, 10% Service Charge and 6% Service Tax)
Average Spend: RM28.60 per pax
Score: 7.67/10
M – Meal Value
For a simple, local meal experience at this price point, the value is decent. The focus on classic dishes provides a satisfying taste of home comfort.
Score: 7.5/10
V – Venue & Vibes
The restaurant has a very casual, no-frills atmosphere that perfectly suits a neighborhood dinner outing. This is a disappearing breed of restaurants.
Score: 7.5/10
X – X-Factor
The X-factor here is the fried rice. This salted egg version is perfect for those who don’t like their rice oily.
Score: 8.0/10
