Sarawak Laksa, Pork-Free
Lunch at Alexis Bistro The Gardens. Alexis is to KL, what Loewys is to Jakarta. IYKYK. Alexis is certainly an establishment , started at least 2 decades ago at Telawi Bangsar. A few of us old ones were regaling the maelstrom that was Bangsar back in the heydays – think Finnegaans, Ronnie Q, Devi’s Corber etc . Again IYKYK. Over the years – it’s becoming a bit of a Central Perk (of Friends’ fame) for us.

Serving dependable good bites and a not so bad wine list. Back again today at their Gardens outlet – I had ye old faithful, Sarawak Laksa. Now I’ve had countless bowls of such laksa over the years – but maybe the ambience here, not sure – makes Alexis’ offering a cut above the rest. It’s not a 8/10 slam dunk, but a consistent 7-7.5/10 over the decades, every single time.

The rich broth, “coconutty”, tangy packs full scale umaminess/richness only to be found here. Pound for pound, bowl for bowl, Lao Mao@ Megah Rise comes closest- but threw in the overall ambience/experience/nostalgia and Alexis is untouchable.

As I’m alone without family and friends this time around – I opted for the laksa and a tapas (gambas) And wine of course. White wine. That’s just the way it is.

Total damage RM290 including a bottle of wine. Irrepressibly Alexis Bistro The Gardens. Total experience 7/10 over 3 decades and that’s saying something. Consistency over Intensity, always.
