Chicken Soup, Pork-Free
Chicken Soup Master in Sunway Geo is a cozy spot specializing in Korean chicken soup. Jen was craving something warm and soothing, so we made our way there. This is yet another food delicacy I can pin-point on yet another Korean food programme.
They offer both half-chicken and full-chicken portions, and we decided to go all in with a full Neungi Gyetang (능이계탕) since there were 3 of us.

Neungi Gyetang is a traditional Korean soup made with a whole spring chicken and “neungi” mushrooms, also known as Sarcodon aspratus or 黑鸡枞 in Chinese. These mushrooms have been cherished in East Asian cuisine and medicine for centuries, believed to aid digestion and boost immunity. Their earthy flavour adds a unique depth to the soup and pairs well with the chicken.

The soup itself was rich and satisfying, with the mushrooms lending a subtle umami quality. However, the chicken lacked that same depth, as all its essence seemed to infuse into the broth rather than staying within the meat. I guess that was what the bowl of salt was there for. Still, the broth itself was deeply nourishing and warm, just the kind of comfort Jen had been looking for.
