Chinese, Steamed Pork Patty, Fine Dining
While strolling through Pavilion Damansara Heights, I found myself drawn to Da Fu Di, where a poster proclaimed that their dim sum offerings started at RM10.90. Naturally, this piqued my interest, and decided to stop to have lunch here. They seated me in this comfortable booth.

While browsing through their ala-carte menu, that’s when a particular dish caught my eye: the steamed pork patty with rice. It seemed humble enough, but I had a hunch that it would be a comforting and hearty meal. I was not wrong.
The steamed pork patty arrived looking deceptively simple, but the moment I took a bite, I realised how well-thought-out the flavours were. The pork itself was tender, juicy, and packed with savoury goodness, but what made it truly special was the addition of cuttlefish. In Chinese cuisine, the inclusion of cuttlefish is a clever touch. It enhances the dish in two distinct ways. Firstly, the cuttlefish introduces a gentle brininess that contrasts wonderfully with the rich, fatty flavour of the pork. This adds an extra layer of umami, making each bite more complex and intriguing. Secondly, the texture of the cuttlefish—slightly chewy but not rubbery—offers a pleasant contrast to the soft, tender patty, making the eating experience more enjoyable.

The pork patty’s oils had seeped into the fluffy white rice beneath, making the rice incredibly flavourful. Every spoonful of rice carried a hint of the savoury juices from the pork, while still maintaining its light, fluffy texture. It’s the kind of dish that warms you from the inside out—a true comfort meal. Despite its simplicity, it was executed with a deft hand, and the balance of flavours and textures was on point.

At RM18.90, the dish was an absolute steal considering its quality and portion size. It’s rare to find such a satisfying dish that offers both value for money and well-executed flavours in a mall setting.
