since i wanted to go to gurney plaza yesterday for the penang green market event, thus i did my food hunt there. went to Ho Min San Gurney Plaza. my first time. i ordered the ‘kohlrabi & minced meat noodles’. i asked the waitress what is ‘kohlrabi’ and she doesn’t seems to understand what i was asking. just kept saying "minced meat".
since i thought this noodles was dry, i had better order some soup, so settled for the dumpling soup but later learned that it came with a small bowl of soup! i also ordered add on of braised taukua (beancurd).
everything to me were just average. noodles quite good but minced meat just so-so and the sauce looked like a bit oily and towards the end, a bit salty. however the dumpling soup was even more salty. yikes!
dry noodles with kohlrabi and minced meat. RM16.80
top shows the braised taukua (beancurd) and the small bowl of soup that comes with the noodles.
bottom i showed the menu of the noodles i order (with red arrow)
top: dumpling in soup. RM11.30
bottom: menu of the dumpling soup ordered, with red arrow
top: sauces and utensils on the table and oh.. a sign teaching you how to eat pan fried dumpling
bottom: close up of the sauce - there are soy sauce, vinegar and their special mixian sauce. silly me forgot to put it on my noodles until i was about to finish, only remember. it was a spicy sauce.
overall although all the food were just average, but it was a satisfying lunch. i was seated outside the restaurant (centre area) and i notice quite many customers comes and go. rather crowded. where i was seated, a bright light was right above me, hence not able to take good shots of the menu. i only took the main one to show the dry noodles and soup noodles (forgot the fried noodles and rice).
note: later when i was home i google for kohlrabi and found out it is a kind of vegetable – to be exact – german turnip.
