Kedai Kopi Malaya first popped up on my radar in 2019. They claim a heritage that goes back to 1948 on their website though you really can’t find more about this heritage. Other bloggers have questioned it too. Perhaps it was supposed to be a marketing gimmick. It’s debatable whether it helps them or not. Only the owners of the business can say. I did not step in their to explore that.

I happened to step in there because there was a coffee kiosk opposite it at KL Sentral. My wife ordered a Nasi Lemak Ayam Berempah (RM16.50+). What arrived was a pretty decently portioned plate of Nasi Lemak. The Ayam Berempah looked different from what was shown in the picture. I asked them why that was so and the staff sheepishly replied they had run out of the rempah. It was therefore a Nasi Lemak Ayam Tanpa Rempah.

What surprised us was the fragrance and the flavour of the rice. It had a good aroma as it arrived. That whet the appetite. Then as she dug into the rice, she realised there were slices of ginger in it too. This added a nice spicy flavour to the rice. And the best part of it (I took a bite – maybe more than one) was the sambal. It was a nice spicy non sweet sambal which complemented well with the rice.

A surprisingly satisfying Nasi Lemak was had at Kedai Kopi Malaya that morning.
