Chiefeater VK stopped by Mesa Tapas Restaurant for a quiet toast in familiar surroundings but found it missing its vitality
Yam Rice, Street Food, Non-Halal
For ages, Penangites who love yam rice will traipse over to Chai Leng Park in Butterworth for their fix. Now, I was just introduced to Zheng Xiang Yam Rice on Rangoon Road, which tastes just as good, if not better! It's run by the son of the old couple who started the Chai Leng Park yam rice business back in 1984!
Very fragrant yam rice, served with a very tasty "kiam chye th'ng" containing pork belly slices, pork meatballs, pig's intestines, preserved mustard vegetables, etc.
Don't miss ordering the soy-braised pig's trotters and also soy-braised Teochew tofu at Zheng Xiang Yam Rice. The owner-chef was a stickler for perfection: he took 4 hours just to prepare the chili dip!
