The sprouting of old style independent kopitiam continues and you can see that happening in Puchong. Hainan Village Puchong joins this trend. What makes it different is that they are an advocate for a meatless, egg & plant-based diet. Originating from Pulau Pangkor, this restaurant certainly brings something different to the table. I know what some of you are thinking, “Chiefeater going into a meatless restaurant? Are you OK?”
Well, I ordered a set half boiled eggs (RM3.50+) and butter and kaya toast (RM3.50+). So much for being adventurous but hey it was breakfast! The egg was served in its shell and it arrived before the toast. But once I had liberated the egg from its armour, the toast arrived so it was timed well. The half-boiled egg was a wee bit overcooked with the egg white being a touch too congealed. The toast was done the traditional way. A slice of Hainanese bread sliced vertically in half and then having the kaya and butter generously spread in the middle. The execution at Hainan Village Puchong was good but the kaya lacked aroma.
My wife ordered the Stir Fried Nyonya Meehoon (RM14.90+). The faux sotong had a texture that approximated real sotong very well. The dish was well seasoned and full of flavour. Tangy and savoury flavours intermingling like two dancers in step with one another. The serving was generous too. This would be a dish to come back for at Hainan Village Puchong.
