Noodles, Non-Halal
not too long ago, someone posted about Bai Siang Lou and looking at the food/menu, it seems that i like most of them, so i decided to visit the restaurant today. lots of different food to choose from their menu. breakfast set, dim sum, western food, noodles, spaghetti, pizza, rice (set rice and fried rice)… they have it all and all through the day from 8.00 am right through to 10.00 pm with no break, thus they serve for all meals throughout the day!
i try their latest new food which was not in the menu yet. they showed it on the display panel on the table – mala milky seafood noodle (mala means spicy). then i tapau (takeaway) the otak-otak rice set, which comes with 3 sides. i understand the otak-otak is indonesian style and since i love otak-otak and haven’t try indonesian style, so must try. the curry too, i was told, is indonesian curry… next trip will try – or try the sambal udang rice set.
service was good and all the staff were friendly. one came to ask me how i find the food and even say thank you and bye to me as i left.
mala milky seafood noodles. RM24.00
nicely arranged when it comes to me. 3 pcs each of the seafood - prawns, fried fish, cuttlefish, crabmeat
the prawns were fresh and tasted good. i don’t really like fried fish as fear it is hard but surprisingly this one, the flesh is so soft. cuttlefish not so good though… maybe it is because all along i don’t like cuttlefish. one of it like very difficult to bite. the soup/broth is very good. flavourful and spicy! overall it was delicious.
otak-otak rice set. RM22.00
top: comes with salad, boiled egg, ikan billis (anchovy) and purple colour crackers, which to me, was very good. first time seeing/tasting purple one... is it with yam or what?
bottom: the crackers and ikan billis. also a green colour sauce... not sure what kind of sauce it is but it was quite good, not spicy
top: showing close-up of the otak-otak as it is
bottom: there are some prawns and cuttle fish in it. the prawns are quite good size. it is quite spicy. overall though i don't really find it that good. just average. i prefer our nyonya otak-otak over this.
the 'cham ice coffee'
not thick enough. just average
there’s no worry about parking as just a few doors away is a parking lot. if you go early, lots of empty lots. i was there about 11.30 am and easy to find a spot. also being at an early time for lunch, the restaurant was quite empty when i was there – only one table occupied with 3 persons. i like it this way. only when i finished eating, more people came in.
