Chiefeater Joyce Lee had a meal at Watermark Restaurant and while the food was good, she did find the dessert too sweet for her

Fusion, Pork-Free
We found ourselves back at Bar Abong for dinner, and this time, unlike our previous visit where we had the place practically to ourselves, the restaurant was buzzing with energy and nearly full—a reassuring sign that the word is getting out about this hidden gem perched a floor above street level.

For this meal, we ordered a spread of five dishes to share among three of us:
• Tapenade (RM16)
• Croquettes Abong (RM23)
• Fish Sandwich (RM36)
• Tamago Tempeh (RM15)
• Baked Camembert (RM48)
The tapenade made for a light and flavourful start. This briny, olive-forward spread, served with crisp bread, had a subtle sophistication—like a little whisper from the Mediterranean. Next came the Croquettes Abong, a returning favourite. Made with tenggiri fish, these were beautifully golden, crispy on the outside, and pleasingly soft and savoury inside. Just as excellent as before.

The fish sandwich was another standout—a well-executed, satisfying bite, with the fish cooked just right and the bread holding up nicely without overwhelming the filling. It had a comforting, balanced flavour profile that made it memorable.

The only dish that didn’t quite hit the same high notes was the tamago tempeh. While creative and visually interesting, the flavours felt a little disjointed, lacking the harmony found in the other plates. Still, a bold and inventive addition to the menu.

To round off the evening, we had the baked camembert, which arrived melty and gooey—essentially a compact cheese fondue. Dipping into it with bread while sipping on a cold Sapporo draught made for a wonderfully indulgent ending.

Total bill for three came to RM207, though there was a mistake made with the number of beers ordered. Just check your bill before you pay for it. Mistakes do happen after all.
