Cantonese, Non-Halal, Fine Dining
It’s time to welcome a unique new restaurant to North Bridge Road! The Black Pearl by Gaia Lifestyle Group has recently opened its doors at Odeon 333, serving up elegant Cantonese cuisine.
This fancy new restaurant is situated on the rooftop of Odeon 333, at Level 7. Taking up the entire floor, it provides an elevated fine dining experience coupled with scenic views of the Downtown district. No, the establishment has nothing to do with Captain Jack Sparrow. The Black Pearl gets its name from the beauty and exquisiteness of a pearl and is inspired by the Qing Imperial Banquet. Helmed by award-winning Executive Chef Dee Chan, it boasts fare with the flavours of authentic “Yue” Cuisine from various regions in Greater Canton with a modern twist.
It was a business lunch, but I couldn’t help taking photos of the food (after the first bite). Usually for such settings- the focus is on the conversation. The trio of starters – the shrimp, black pearl bun and crispy fish skin were spectacular.
The shrimp was 7/10

The black pearl bun was easily a 7.5/10.

The crispy fish skin at 7.25/10

That averages out at 7.25/10 overall. What a way to start – truth be told the first bite was the shrimp.
Next, the hot and sour soup – which was delectable but a little too spicy for me. 7/10

The crispy fish was next. This was perfection 7.5/10. The flaky white flesh just melts in your mouth- the crunch and sizzle from the crispy skin was audible across the large private room table. Amazing!
Then we had the Peking duck – no pictures as I was talking. It was ok 7/10 – just slightly below say an Imperial Treasure Peking Duck. The duck meat was stir fried I’m guessing in XO sauce and put into a lettuce wrap. This was also good at 7/10

The dessert was exquisite – the dried milk dough stick was 7.5/10 – the last time I had this was at Wan Chai, HK. This was a welcome change in my palate.
The sesame fritter ball was also good at 7/10 – in Cantonese. “Zhin Toey” with sesame peanut filling inside.

Overall – BlackPearl is a top 5 fine Cantonese dining option in Sg. Highly recommended
