Shin Zushi Puchong is one of several Shin Zushi found in the Klang Valley. The Puchong outlet has over 670 reviews giving it 4.4 stars. The restaurant is almost always constantly packed and very often there is a queue up front. We thought we would beat the queue by going there just before 5 pm for an early dinner. We did beat the queue but the whole outlet was packed even at that hour.
There are two reasons why, I think, Shin Zushi packs it in. The first is their staff who are efficient yet courteous. The second is because of their price. We had the following items: Salmon Natsu Sushi (RM25++), Eel Mentai (RM10.50++), Tokubetsu Steak (RM27++), refillable Green Tea (RM2++) and a Daiginjo Sake (RM60++). All of it inclusive of the sake came up to just RM144.40. Without the sake, it would have been just about RM80.

While I can attest to it being affordable, I don’t think Shin Zushi Puchong is the place where you go for good Japanese food. I wanted my beef to medium rare – it came served medium. The rice in the sushi was not well compacted, so it came loose easily. The salmon sashimi’s texture lacked the springiness of fresh salmon.

While these are grouses, they serve a decent meal at a very decent price. If it’s fair quality sushi that you are looking for that is above the chain outlets, then Shin Zushi is a place to consider.
FYI, I enjoyed the Daiginjo very much.
