Japanese
Lunch at Don Omakase TTDI, the current viral Japanese spot in Kuala Lumpur, lived up to its buzz in atmosphere if not entirely in taste. Despite the crowd on a weekday, we managed to walk in without a reservation and were seated swiftly. Orders were efficiently handled — the sets arrived in about ten minutes, an impressive turnaround for such a packed dining room.

Each set came with a side salad, pickles, and one with a chawanmushi. The chawanmushi was smooth and lightly savoury — a small but welcome touch of authenticity.

The Wagyu Char Gyu Don arrived glistening beneath a bright yolk, with beef slices seared and topped with garlic chips. While tender, the flavour leaned mild — lacking that caramelised richness or buttery texture one might expect from wagyu. It was enjoyable but not memorable, sitting comfortably in the “good, not great” zone.

The star of the afternoon was the Matcha Mont Blanc. Its fine matcha strands layered over ice cream delivered a silky, balanced sweetness — the kind that lingers quietly rather than shouts. The creamy base lifted the grassy matcha note beautifully, making it the perfect finish.

	•	Wagyu Char Gyu Don Set – RM58
	•	Salmon Engawa Don Set – RM62
	•	Angus Steak Don Set – RM55
	•	Matcha Mont Blanc – RM18
Total (with service & SST): RM223.88
Score: 7.0 / 10
M – Meal Value: Good presentation and portion size. Beef dons are competent, though flavour depth could be stronger. The matcha dessert elevates the experience beyond typical donburi spots.
V – Vibe & Venue: Modern, lively, and well-run even under peak-hour pressure. Quick service and bright interior suit lunch crowds perfectly.
X – X-Factor: The Matcha Mont Blanc — refined, balanced, and beautifully executed.
