Baby Octopus
Returning to a familiar place can be satisfying when the dishes you were hoping for still turn up well, and that was the case with this revisit to Ipoh Tuck Kee in Puchong Jaya. Dinner here turned out to be a pleasant one, with the baby octopus and the stir fried choy tam standing out the most.
The baby octopus was really good. What made it enjoyable was the springy bite, which gave the dish a lively texture without turning rubbery. It was dressed simply enough to let the octopus do the talking, with garlic, chopped scallions and chilli adding aroma and a bit of lift around it. This was one of those dishes that keeps you going back for another piece because the texture lands so nicely.

The stir fried choy tam was also very good. It had that clean, fresh crunch you want from a vegetable dish, while the garlic and sauce gave it enough savoury depth to make it more than just a token order on the table. It balanced out the heavier noodle dishes nicely.

There were also a couple of noodle plates on the table. The Hokkien Mee was a bit bland for me though it had good wok hei.

The Yuet Khong Hor is always good. After all this is the dish that they built their brand upon.

David said the Ying Yong he had was very bland, like they had forgotten to season it.

The meat of the Nam Yue Pork was somewhat tough. Probably not something I want to order again.

Pricing was not available to me as this meal was a treat.
MVX Score: 8.0/10
M – Meal Value
While I was treated to the meal, the general prices here fall between RM20 to RM40 per pax. On food satisfaction alone, though, the baby octopus and choy tam made the dinner feel worthwhile.

V – Venue & Vibes
This felt like a straightforward, casual dinner setting suited to sharing a few dishes over conversation. The appeal here is more about reliable group dining than polished atmosphere.
Score: 7.5/10
X – X-Factor
The X-factor was the baby octopus. The springy texture made it the dish that stayed with me the most from the revisit.
