Sandwiches, Non-Halal
La Spiga D’oro has moved to a new location in Taman Desa, and if you haven’t been yet, now’s the time. A friend brought me over for a bite, and what a revelation it turned out to be. The focus here is on schiacciata, a Tuscan-style flatbread that looks a little like focaccia but eats very differently — lighter, crispier on top, and full of airy pockets that soak up flavour. The result? Sandwiches that crackle at first bite but melt into softness as you chew.

I went for Il Re (RM55), a kingly combination of mortadella di Bologna, fresh burrata, and toasted pistachios — delicate, rich, and utterly satisfying. The mortadella was silky, the burrata creamy and fresh, and those nuts gave it a crunch and nuttiness that tied everything together beautifully. A sandwich to slow down for.

We also shared a Jamon Platter (RM28), the kind of thing that turns a simple lunch into a small feast. Thinly sliced, beautifully cured — the quality of the meat made all the difference.

My only regret is that I could not enjoy this with wine as it was too early in the day.

The new space is relaxed, unpretentious, and perfect for catching up over great bread and even better ingredients.

Buon appetito!
