Eggs Benedict, Pork-Free
Yellow Brick Road is one of the earlier breakfast cafes that gained a firm following in KL. They opened in 2015 and from the get go, they often had queues getting into their establishment on weekends. In 2022, after 7 years at Batai, they relocated to their current premises at The Five on Jalan Dungun. One of the plus about the new location would be its proximity to the Semantan (Manu Life) MRT station. The moment you come down from the escalator, you are right in front of the cafe.
Convenience aside, it’s time to revisit the food. Jen and I were there for lunch. Before they sat us, they actually told us that we had to wait between 30 minutes to 45 minutes for the food to be ready. I like that they pre-empted us and gave us an option to proceed or not. We were not in a rush so we decided to go ahead.
The later hour meant that some items in their menu were already unavailable. Jen had wanted a salmon & orange salad. I had wanted a braised lamb which was a May special. Both were already sold out at 1 pm. Instead she had a Caesar Salad while I had a Pulled Beef Benedict. The lady taking my order said that is one of their best selling dishes. While I was ordering, I was actually wondering whether that was to console me for not being able to get my first choices.
The Caesar Salad (RM34++) took less than 45 minutes to arrive. It came with a house-made Caesar dressing, grilled chicken thigh, whole baby romaine lettuce, parmesan, croutons, and a boiled egg. This was a more than competent dish.

The Pulled Beef Benedict (RM33++) had pulled beef, kale, spicy Thai mayo, Parmesan, poached eggs on a brioche bun. This dish, I really enjoyed. The dish was spicy, appetizing and very well seasoned. In fact, don’t eat anything else after this. I had a bite of the grilled chicken from the salad. The flavours of the beef overpowered the chicken. The egg was runny and the yolk pops out as you put your knife into it. I enjoyed this and felt that the RM33++ was a worthwhile price to pay for it.
