Chiefeater William Tan gave the Koay Teow Th'ng at Kedai Kopi Xiao Shi a try and he licked the bowl clean
Lor Bak, Non-Halal
Still unsatisfied with the Yuet Kong Hor from the night before, I decided to try another version—this time from I Love Hokkien Mee Puchong Jaya. Ordered via food delivery, the dish arrived warm, though the egg was more cooked than expected. My expectations had been raised because the one from Ipoh Tuck Kee Puchong arrived in a better shape.
The hor fun itself was a letdown. The texture lacked the silky smoothness that defines a good Yuet Kong Hor, and the dish leaned towards being too dry. Once again, it felt like the seasoning was lacking, making the overall flavour somewhat flat. Fortunately, the extra lard helped add some much-needed richness, but it wasn’t enough to fully compensate.
Thankfully, the fried chicken wings and lor bak proved to be the saving grace of the meal. Both were well-seasoned and left me satisfied.
Even better was the chilli that came with the chicken wings—it packed a delightful heat that complemented the crispy exterior perfectly.
While the Yuet Kong Hor still didn’t impress, the side dishes were enjoyable. Next time, I’d probably stick to their fried items and leave the noodles aside.
