Spicy Chicken, Non-Halal

What was supposed to be a simple takeaway from Ming Kee Porridge Puchong turned into a standout lunch.
The char siew rice (RM16.43) was a pleasant surprise—glossy, caramelised edges without tipping into cloying sweetness, and a satisfying meat-to-fat ratio that didn’t leave one feeling weighed down. The egg and pickles added a nice touch, but the real star of the meal was tucked into the second container.
The chilled spicy chicken (RM33.39) was phenomenal. Buried under a generous coat of Sichuan-style chilli oil and minced garlic, the cold poached slices had a clean bite and soaked up every bit of the numbing, spicy, fragrant dressing. The heat was assertive but addictive, with that unmistakable tingle from Sichuan peppercorns. It didn’t just burn, it built up appetite.
This was a combination that worked on both ends of the flavour spectrum. The char siew gave comfort, but the spicy chicken lit up the senses.
