The shoplot where Super Tanker occupied for so many years is now another eatery concept by the Extra Super Tanker group, “uniquely” named Restaurant Kitchen at Damansara Jaya. Top marks on the name (NOT) but does it matter if the food is good and cheap.
And cheap is what caught our attention. RM7.07++ for a plate of chicken rice and RM18.32++ for a bowl of roast pork & tiger prawn curry noodles. It’s such a strange value so that when they nett it with the 6% SST, it becomes RM7.50 and RM17.50 respectively.
But is it really “Peng Leng Cheng” at Restaurant Kitchen at Damansara Jaya? Where food is concerned, that’s Cantonese for Cheap, Look Good & Tastes Great. Hereafter, I shall just use PLC.
The Chicken Rice at Restaurant Kitchen at Damansara Jaya appeared to look good. But the taste was where it failed to reach the PLC mark. The rice was too soft and was not aromatic. The chicken meat was too dry and the skin was too chewy.
The Curry Noodles had an option for Sang Mee which had me there It looked good too on arrival. But again, it was let down by execution. The Sang Mee had been overcooked so the texture of the noodle too soft. One of the two tiger prawn was mushy. The curry was well seasoned and the roast pork was the usual standard that one would come to expect of Extra Super Tanker.
If you subscribe to Meat Loaf’s 2 out of 3 ain’t bad, then maybe Restaurant Kitchen at Damansara Jaya is for you. I must credit the assistant manager for being attentive. He had seen me set aside the noodles on to a different plate and asked me what was wrong with it.
The pot of tea (RM4++) was good. I enjoyed it as it did not get diluted by the second pour.
The ++ is for a 5% service charge and a 6% SST
