When it comes to Yong Tau Foo in Serdang, many people of the older generation can’t help but mention a name: Restoran Yong Thau Foo Leong Ya. This brand has been accompanying the locals for nearly 60 years. From the initial small stall to its current reputation, Leong Ya relies on its consistent taste. Yong tau foo and paper-wrapped chicken are the signature dishes here, so classic that even after decades, people still remember them.
Today, I specially brought customers from East Malaysia to experience this old West Malaysian taste full of memories. On the table, Leong Ya's Yong Tau Fu was served first. The delicate tofu and solid fish fillings made every bite full of hometown flavor. The sauce of Yong Tau Foo is sweet but not greasy, and each piece is stuffed just right. Next is the paper-wrapped chicken. The chicken is wrapped in oil paper, steamed until it is delicious and then fried in a pan. As soon as the paper wrap is opened, the rich aroma comes out. The chicken is tender and juicy, with a slight sweetness, and you can feel the full ancient flavor when you take a bite.
There is also Hakka fried pork. Although this dish is simple, it is crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, with a slight salty aroma.
Paired with stir-fried green dragon cabbage and bean sprouts, the two vegetables with different textures are intertwined, tender and crispy. Especially friends from East Malaysia who tried this combination for the first time, couldn't help but nod their heads in praise.
This inheritance from the old street to the dining table is a preservation of memory and a continuation of delicious food for foodies. In the busy life, if you occasionally stop and have a bite of such traditional old taste, you will feel like you have been transported to the past in an instant.
