Yixing Xuan Teahouse is known for their Chinese teas. This shop is part of a rich Chinatown heritage culture - workshops to appreciate tea from Yunnan and all over China. Be prepared to pay up to SGD200 for a pot of tea here, which you can refill 5 to 10 times.
Serves about 3 mugs at optimal taste - after which the leaves’ yield tapers off. Come for a good cuppa- Chinese tea drinking isn’t as religious an affair like the Japanese tea ceremony (Zen Buddhism inspired), it’s a social affair (read: louder).
Oh and of course - the teas. We selected Da Hong Pao (Prestige), and it was fantastic. I may not be a tea connoisseur (yet), but my palate can still discern the richness and silkiness of top quality Chinese tea
The red bean filling in the green tea pastry was excellent- chewy and packing full depth of richness in favours. The crispy bean curd was not too bad either. The former weighs in 7/10, the beancurd skin at 6.5/10
This was a pleasant surprise for me, as the main highlight was Chinese tea. Oh yes, tea at one point - the tea rings/bundles were worth more than silver- and it’s steadily climbing again with Chinese affluence. There are quite a few small plates to choose from including some dim sum items. That was the clincher for me!
