Song Kee Teochew Fish Porridge is a Safe Bet
Post by Chiefeater Luke Soon
At Song Kee Teochew Fish Porridge. There’s omakase, and there’s fish soup. I can’t describe it any simpler - fresh fish slices boiled/ cooked in soup stock? Asians we all have our ways to consume fresh seafood - the japs eating most raw and I guess this, halfway (boiled) in between.
This is unique to Singapore. At least as a hawker dish/ offering. All the better - you can’t fault fresh fish. We had 2 bowls, one pure fish slices and one with mee sua. There’s no going wrong with this. Newton Food centre may be a tourist trap but if you stick to fish soup, you’re relatively safe.
I can’t think of anything more Teochew than this - fish soup, fish porridge etc. Chiefeater Susan has been frequenting this very same spot since the early 2000s. I’ve her to thank for this intro today.
