Shao Holland Village Modern Teochew Tapas
Teochew, Non-Halal
Description
Post by Chiefeater Luke Soon
Located along the famous Lorong Mambong stretch in the Holland Village enclave, Shao Holland Village is one of three Shao outlets. The other two are at Frankel Avenue and Rangoon Road. That said, tapas aside, as with any Teochew restaurant, you can expect a wide assortment of dishes on their menu, ranging from fresh seafood (such as its signature marinated raw crab) to Teochew-style braised dishes.
Shao Holland Village delivers a very enjoyable experience, underscored by prompt service and solid cooking. The vibe is more “modern zi char” than “modern Chinese restaurant” and it feels nice and casual here.
Also, unlike what the name suggests, not everything served here is in tapas form — the restaurant also provides plenty of traditional Teochew staples such as steamed fish and porridge. That ensures a good variety of dish types to make your meal there more interesting.
On top of that, prices at Shao Tapas are also generally reasonable for the quality, with dishes priced from SGD8.

This was the best dish for me at 7.25/10
The grouper porridge was refreshing at 7/10
I’ve had Shao several times at Frankel Ave, their HQ. That was way more traditional vs this modern twist on Teochew tapas @ Holland Village. The Shao back then was a Teochew specialist, boasting their crab - hot (roasted, baked in salt) and cold crabs.
This new Shao adds an array of cold, raw dishes as well- such as raw prawns - but we went for the drunken cockles instead. This was good at 7/10
The new Shao carries an impressive liquor list - asia. Liquor to be precise. From Chinese wuliangye to moutai to Japanese sake sets, Shao packs a venerable punch! Shao Holland Village brings a new twist to the pubs and bar sprawls in Holland V; with an Asian modernistic twist to spruce things up! Definitely a welcome addition to the ‘burb.
