Inflight Meal
In-flight meals are usually nothing memorable. They tend to be functional, something to fill time more than to enjoy. But on this Batik Air flight, I was pleasantly surprised by the nasi briyani. It came with a bottle of water and cost RM20 (I think. I had to pay in cash so I can’t remember exactly)

The rice wasn’t the long-grain basmathi that I’d typically expect from a briyani. Instead, it was a shorter grain, but the flavour held up. The spices were nicely blended, with just the right amount of warmth and a touch of heat. The rice had moisture, not the usual dry and grainy kind you often get on planes.

There weren’t any sides, just the rice and protein, but it was well put together and satisfying. A decent meal for the journey home, and better than what I’ve come to expect from many in-flight options.
