Indian, Banana Leaf Rice, Pork-Free
After two years of closure, Grand Neelas Restaurant made its long-awaited return in mid-2024, and despite the hiatus, the place was impressively well-maintained. Reading the reviews, they have many fans who had missed it. For lunch, we opted for banana leaf rice, complemented by a selection of fish cutlet, chicken, mutton, and sotong. The curries were decent—nothing too extraordinary, but certainly enjoyable.

One of the highlights, as many have noted before, was the fried bitter gourd. Crisp and well-seasoned, it stood out as a nice accompaniment to the meal.

However, my personal favourite had to be the fish cutlet. It was full of flavour, with a satisfying texture that wasn’t too hard or dry, making it the star of the plate.

While the food was certainly not bad, the final bill came as a bit of a surprise. At RM98.50 for a banana leaf rice lunch for two, it did feel more than a little steep. Perhaps the charges could be due to their well-kept and air conditioned restaurant. If I go back, it would be for the fish cutlet.
